This 104-page book illustrates the most important episodes of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870 in Alsace-Lorraine through numerous pictures and postal documents, from the battle of Wissembourg to the siege of Belfort, not forgetting the mails of French prisoners of war. The most important events are of course th siege of Metz and the siege of Strasbourg, the latter having given rise to one of the first interventions of the Red Cross in favor of the civilian population. The sieges of Phalsbourg, Bitche, Neuf-Brisach and Sélestat are also mentioned, as well as the battles of Forbach-Spicheren, Froeschwiller-Woerth (also known as the battle of Reichshoffen) and those of Gravelotte and Saint-Privat near Metz. The beginnings of the German postal administration is also presented with the occupation stamps and the opening of German post offices and Prussian railway post.
