Introducing Association SPAL

• Since its creation in 1932 the "Association des SPécialistes en marques postales et oblitérations d'Alsace-Lorraine" (SPAL) has been interested in the postal history of Alsace-Lorraine. This history is particularly rich and complex because of the two German annexations which were imposed on the population of Alsace-Moselle in 1870 and 1940.
• While the association initially gathered collectors of marks, stamps and postal documents, the research of the members has progressively moved towards the history of our region through the study of postal documents and archival research. These reveal an everyday history that is sometimes quite different from the one told in history textbooks.
• The publication of specialized books is one of the areas of activity of the SPAL Association. Although intended primarily for members of the association, these books are also available to the public.
• SPAL is a non-profit organization.
